Veranstaltungs-Nr.: 8.1.88

Titel: Ultrasound in Applied Physics and Medicine

Art: Vorlesung

Veranstalter: Mellert

Zeit und Ort: Di 10 - 12, W2 1-126

Interessenten: Studierende aller Physikstudiengänge (Diplom, Lehramt, MSEP, MUWI)

Voraussetzungen: Vordiplom, Zwischenprüfung

Inhalt:
Acoustic waves of short wavelength (ultrasound) are widely used to "look" into visually opaque material (technical- , composite- , biological- ). Different methods are applied in order to "visualize" the (acoustic) wave field inside the material, e.g. inside a human body. But ultrasound is only harmless at low intensities. High intensity sound can be used to damage tissue or stones. The limits of intensity are critical and must be observed carefully. An introduction into the use of ultrasound for "non-destructive" testing with emphasis on medical applications is given.

Bemerkungen:
The course will be held in English if MSEP-students demand for it.
