CRISP '97, Cooperative Research Information Systems in Physics

About CRISP '97

Purpose of the meeting:

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together physicists, computer scientists, and other experts to discuss issues related to cooperative scientific information systems. Internet and electronic communication methods have greatly affected the way science is published and distributed, and the importance of these issues will increase in the future. It is therefore very important for the scientists, publishers, and computer experts to meet and map their needs and discuss the directions for the future development of electronic communication in sciences. To create both technically reliable, fast and secure, and scientifically accurate and comprehensive information systems, input from developers, publishers and users is needed.

At the moment there are several independent projects to develop general methods and protocols for electronic communication in science and research: EuroPhysNet (EC application), EC funded DESIRE, and EC funded INFO2000 Programme, to mention a few.

We strongly encourage student participation.

Side meetings:

The side meetings are scheduled for the second day (Tuesday, Aug. 2) of the workshop.
